HEX-AIR
FINE BUBBLE DIFFUSER
European
Community Directives have set firm targets for purification standards
in water treatment, encouraging the development of processes that
efficiently reduce nitrate and phosphorus effluent concentration.
The sequencing batch reactor principle, basically consisting of
alternate aerobic and anoxic/anaerobic treatment, is one of the
best ways of meeting these standards. An essential requirement
of this type of process is fine bubble aeration where Dissolved
Oxygen levels can be carefully controlled with excellent mixing
and minimum sludge build up. The 250mm diam Hex-Air Diffuser is
ideally suited to the SBR process. The unique variable slit geometry
gives an even evolution of fine bubbles over the whole surface
of the diaphragm, giving an SOTE of over 6%/m for air flows of
up to 5m3 /hour with oxygenation
efficiencies of 4.5 kgmO2/kWhr in clean water. There is no back flow on shut down
and the unit is self-cleaning.
A range of rubber compounds has been developed to give long service
life in municipal and chemical wastewater. A recurrent problem
for many types of EPDM diffuser is plasticiser in the rubber compound
being extracted by detergents in the wastewater, leading to hardening,
cracking and failure. The Hex-Air EPDM compound has minimal plasticiser
of high molecular weight and excellent retention, giving extended
service life.
Hex-Air Viton diaphragms have been shown to give excellent service
in chemical wastewater and hydrogenated nitrile rubber diaphragms
have made possible fine bubble aeration of wastewater heavily
contaminated with oil. Silicone diaphragms are available for use
with ozonised air to destroy pathogens in potable water. |
